Wednesday, July 10

Today after morning class we enjoyed a warm afternoon on the river. After a nice walk down to the Cherwell River, we punted for an hour or so. Punting, which was a new activity for me, was great fun for the group. A long and narrow boat, with about four people to each boat, is pushed along by someone with a long metal pole.  While one person pushes the boat with the pole, another person steers the boat with a paddle. It was a very calm day, and perfect weather for boating. The ducks swam aside us, down the river with their little ducklings, which added to the serenity. Thankfully, no one fell in the water, and none of the boats flipped. Later in the day, we walked over to an all-woman’s performance of William Shakespeare’s comedy The Taming of the Shrew. The play was at the Bodleian Library, so it was a short walk away from where we are at Brasenose College. The acting was great, but it being an all-women’s play, it was a little hard to distinguish who exactly was playing the male and female roles. The play was funny, and I think it was well received by the group. We got out of the play late, about 10:30, and as we got out, some of the group ran to the food truck to grab a bite to eat before bed. It’s hard to believe that the trip is halfway over, it’s gone by so fast. We still have so much more to see and learn here in Oxford.
